Nice for a day

Awwww:

WASHINGTON (AP) - It could be the only day before Nov. 6 without explicit partisan rancor.

Both President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney plan to take down their negative ads in honor of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Neither planned to appear at overtly political events, although Election Day is never far from their agendas.

I suppose I shouldn't be too cynical about this -- it's a sign of respect for the solemnity of the occasion and an acknowledgement that good taste and good manners are more important some times than others. It's like the late-night comedians who suspended their shows temporarily after that awful day because making jokes wouldn't have seemed right. Still. Politics is the way we choose our government, and if nasty TV ads are wrong on 9/11, they're wrong every other day. This comes across as posturing from both candidates.
