Talk, talk, talk

Apparently some shakeups are coming at NBC News:

Particularly distressed by the changes is the DC bureau team, whose duties include providing political coverage to “Nightly News with Brian Williams” and Sunday talk show “Meet The Press.”

Turness has been trying to figure out the future for David Gregory’s “Meet the Press,” with options including bringing in MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” team of Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for a Sunday show, or blowing up the entire franchise and trying something completely different, sources familiar with the situation said.

[. . .]

Meet the Press” finished in third place in its latest week, falling behind “Face the Nation” on CBS and “This Week” on ABC.

The removal of "Meet the Press" would be no great loss. It hasn't been worth much in years and seems particularly dimwitted these days. But its two main competitors aren't that enlightening, either, and a "Morning Joe" knockoff would pretty much suck. All the news-talk shows are getting so predictable. I caught an episode of "The McLaughlin Group" and realized I could predict what each of the four panelists would say the instant the topic was announed. What's the point of watching?

I think it's about the right time for something really innovative in news/talk. And Where's Bill Buckley when you need him?
