Tailing the Komets

Oh, boy, this in interesting

the Anaheim Ducks reassigned goaltender Marco Cousineau and forward Josh Brittain to the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets.

Outdoor hockey coming to Toledo... eventually

The Toledo Walleye, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced on Thursday plans for the first-ever outdoor game in ECHL history during the 2014-15 season.

For ten days ending 2014 and beginning 2015, downtown Toledo will be transformed into a winter wonderland culminating with the first ever outdoor professional hockey game at Fifth Third Field as ProMedica Toledo Hospital presents the Toledo Walleye Winterfest 2014.

MLK Bridge to light up for Komets

The City of Fort Wayne today announced the lights on the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge will feature orange, black and white this weekend in recognition of the Fort Wayne Komets. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 61st season for the Komets in Fort Wayne and their first in the ECHL.

Here's what I know

The Komets will be receiving two forwards from Norfolk, but they aren't sure, or aren't saying, whom they will be yet. The Komets are currently at the ECHL roster limit with 21 players, which includes two players on reserve. I don't know who those are at this time, but it's irrelevant because you can add or take anybody off reserve on a day-to-day basis. For all it matters now, they could have Colin Chaulk and Brett  Smith on reserve and they could still activate them for Friday's game. In fact, that might happen this year as a way to save money off the salary cap.

Preview section coming Thursday

It's so big we couldn't hope to contain it in one section so we're going for two! Be sure to check it out.

Hurry up and wait

Tapping fingers on keyboard... this is what it's going to be like as an affiliate, always waiting at the mercy of the team above you. Komets have to turn their first ECHL roster in by 3 p.m. today, but there's no guarantee the Norfolk Admirals will be done sending them players by then so they may have to make regular roster moves all day on Thursday or Friday. Ain't this fun? Just the way it is.

Not so fast

``We've talked to Toronto,'' Komets General Manager David Franke said. ``We told them at this point and time we can't really take any more forwards on. We've enquired about possible defensemen but they are not availabe at this time from them. There's nothing in the works between us right now.'

Just one puck

No roster updates today

Though the next few days could be busy with news from Norfolk.
