Tailing the Komets

WANE's Thursday highlights

Komets win 5-3 UPDATED

To go up 3-1 in the series. This game should have been a lot easier than it was. Komets led 3-0 and then 3-2, 4-2 and 5-3, and the momentum flipped simply because they tried to get too cute. They quit dumping and chasing and tried to turn it into a track meet and that allowed Rapid City to get its balance back and then gain the momentum. Stupid penalties.

It's 3-1 after one

Komets messed up and tried to get cute in the offensive zone and that led to a very good Rapid City chance with Jeff Kryazakos getting his first goal of the series.

Komets are up 3-0

The Rush simply aren't competing tonight. Turnovers deep in zone, Komets are killing them with speed, really cycling well below the goal line. Shots are 15-5. Vaskivuo, Auger and Chaumont have scored.

Starenky is out

and rookie Daniel Maggio is in the lineup.

Discipline news

The Central Hockey League has ruled that Les Reaney has been suspended for tonight's game for his hit last night on David Starenky, and Konrad Reeder has been fined for his hit on Kaleigh Schrock.

I've been told Schrock will play tonight.

Instant replay

This is the exact same game as Game 2 was in RC. Komets lead 30-16 in shots with 9:44 left.

Ks are getting more physical in the third. Neither side is getting great scoring chances. We'll see who has legs left.

The non-goal

Replay showed Colin Chaulk scored late in the second period, but there was an odd event that happened. Rapid City defenseman Michael Couch got knocked down on the back of the goal before the shot went in. The shot bounced off Couch's backside and out of the net where the Komets put it in again. Now, because Couch was situated against the back of the net the way he was, there was no way the goal judge or the referee could see the puck inside the net to confirm it from either angle. Couch was blocking their view.

We've had no official ruling on why the goal was ruled off, however.
