You can read Wednesday's story here.
According to Komets coach Al Sims, Chaulk had his head down and got knocked out by the punch and then hit his head on the ice. Despite that, he was feeling much better after the game.
``Knowing Chaulker and that it's his first concussion, if he can pass the test tomorrow he'll want to play Friday,'' Sims said. ``We'll wait and see.''
Chaulk sat with Jesse Bennefield in the stands to watch the second and third periods as the Komets came back to win 3-2.
He fought Bloomington's Ryan Palmer at 1:08 of the first period tonight and fell back and appeared to hit the back of his helmet-less head on the ice. He stayed there for a few seconds and was helped to the Komets' locker room, not to the penalty box.
It's doubtful further details will be available until after the game.
The Komets have activated Leo Thomas and have played Jesse Bennefield on 10-day IR retroactive to Sunday with a lower leg injury.
Where we try to answer why some things are going wrong for the Komets. We also talk about Tom Mele, Artem Podshendyalov, Nick Boucher and a few things that are going right, too.
You can watch it here. It's a two-parter.
Over the last eight games, the Komets have had 30 power-play attempts compared to 52 for their opponents. Opponents have 12 goals and the Komets 5. Komets are 5-3 over those games, but the three losses have been to three of the four worst teams in the CHL.
Those stats show a lack of discipline, frustration and they are getting out-worked.
What a strange season this has been.
Komets lost 4-3, losing for the third time this season in Bloomington which is in last place in the Turner Conference. Komets will try to avoid losing three games in a row for the first time this season on Tuesday night.
Some interesting numbers: Komets are 5-46 on the power play over their last 13 games. Opponents are 12 for 52 over the last eight games.
Komets have had 11 5-on-3 advantages this season, scoring one goal, and opponents have had 19 two-man advantages, scoring eight goals.
Sometimes if you don't get to Larry Sterling early, you don't get to him at all. The Komets never got to him at all despite 50 shots on goal on a 5-0 loss Saturday night. Frankie DeAngelis had seven shots, Colin Chaulk and Chris Auger six each and J.M. Rizk and Jamie Milam five each. The Gems scored three power-play goals.
Evansville is also winning 3-0 at Tulsa which means the IceMen will tie the Kmoets for first place.
Even though Dayton and Bloomington are the two closest teams the Komets play, this is an odd road trip because they are not coming home over the next four days. They are riding the bus tonight from Dayton to Bloomington and then staying in Bloomington for two days until Tuesday's game because there is no practice ice available in Fort Wayne on Monday. So the boys will be out of town on Valentine's Day. I'm guessing they'll do the same thing next week when they go to Bloomington on Sunday and then on to Tula for another Tuesday game.
Otto Andrew from the Game of the Week gang has posted some video for us tonight.
He's got Brett Smith's goal from tonight up and 10 minutes of highlights from the Feb. 4 game against Dayton. Thanks, Otto!
You can see the highlights here!
Komet game of the week is on Access Fort Wayne cable 55/25 Wednesday 8pm, Thursday at Noon, and PBS 39-4 Friday at 4pm and Saturday at 1pm
No reason has been given so far on why Chris Auger's goal didn't count, but the Komets did not argue too much.
The second goal was by Brett Smith on a breakaway
The third goal was by Jamie Milam on a wicked slap shot. Check out the water bottle behind David Brown.
Colin Chaulk scored the fourth goal.
It was previously scheduled for 11 a.m. but now it's going to be 8 p.m. Fort Wayne time in Quad City. The boys will be happy about that.
