Be afraid

They came for the banks, and you said nothing. The came for the car companies, and you said nothing. They came for health care, and you said nothing. Ready to talk now, Obama toadies of the Fourth Estate?

After the fall

Lordy, how time flies:

DEPENDING on which side you were on, Saigon either fell on April 30, 1975, or it was liberated. Inside Vietnam, the day is marked as Liberation Day — but outside, among the Vietnamese refugees, it is called Deep Resentment Day. (The resentment is not just over losing a war, but also a country.)

All those lives wasted, pledged to a promise we had no intention of keeping. "Deep resentment" hardly covers it.

You say you want a revolution

Happy anniversary!

The rights stuff

Lot of people in the news lately because they feel their rights aren't being respected. In Fort Wayne, some Burmese are mad because a laundromat put a sign on the door telling them to keep out, and a city councilwoman is upset because she can't get her proposal introduced to add the transgendered to the city's anti-disctrimination ordinance. Elsewhere in Indiana, a high school valedictorian wants to stop a student-led prayer at graduation because it would violate his First Amendment right to be free from religion.

Gun nuts

I've posted before that I've been all over the map on the death penalty. When I was in college, I was firmly against it, which is one reason I voted for Otis "Doc" Bowen for governor in the first election I was eligible to vote in here (and the second one ever -- I cast my first vote as a soldier in Texas). He opposed capital punishment because all of his training as a physician was aimed at saving lives. He had even voted in the General Assembly in 1965 to abolish the death penalty.

Happy !@%$ anniversary

Joe knows

It's been reported that former South Bend Mayor and Indiana Gov. Joe Kernan has ruled out seeking the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Evan Bayh. Perhaps this explains why:

Clarke Air Force Base was Joe's first stop after 11 months as a prisoner in Vietnam. While in prison, he could only take cold showers. He learned those showers opened his pores, making him feel better. Making the best out of the difficult is what Joe took with him when he left Vietnam.

Tea for two

Oh, yeah:

For some state and local Republicans, there is frustration caused by the perception that the Washington GOP establishment

Brave new world

United Way Executive Director Jerry Peterson is leaving Fort Wayne to pursue his education.

Gay patriots

I guess I understand where John McCain is coming from in his opposition to repealing the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy for gays in the military:

In response, the Arizona senator declared himself "disappointed" in the testimony. "At this moment of immense hardship for our armed services, we should not be seeking to overturn the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy," McCain said bluntly, before describing it as "imperfect but effective."
