All about me

The evidence is in

To my younger brother Larry and our younger sister Judy: Nyah, nyah, nyah.

Birth order within families has long sparked sibling rivalry, but it might also impact the child's personality and intelligence, a new study suggests. First-borns are typically smarter, while younger siblings get better grades and are more outgoing, the researchers say.

Larry, you're more outgoing than I am, right? Judy, you certainly got better grades. I rest my case.

Don't look now, but . . .

This "symposium on superstition" is from last year, but it also seems fitting for the present Friday the 13th. It's amusing to read stolid conservatives such as Ward Connerly admit to bursts of irrationality:

Dreamers

Talk about a dilemma. When the left and the hard left get in a cat fight, for whom do I root?

A Democrat whose name was invoked by President Barack Obama's spokesman in an attack on the party's liberal wing says the White House doesn't understand deep public frustration over the troubled economy.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich tells ABC's "Good Morning America" that press secretary Robert Gibbs shouldn't have attacked the "professional left."

Love the books, hate the movies

There's a new edition of Robert Heinlin's "The Puppet Masters" out (via Instapundit), and I may have to pick it up. This isn't the 1951 version of only 60,000 words. It's the 1990 version in which Heinlein was able to return the 36,000 words cut by the original publisher.

Calling Cool Hand Luke

San Francisco is now added with Oklahoma City to my Downtowns of Infamy list. O.C. is where the parking meter was introduced back in 1935. And S.F. has come up with the latest innovation for that evil contraption:

Shameless

Do you know what these are?

1) jetblue flight attendant, 2) steve slater, 3) bleach episode 283, 4) lindsay sloane, 5) ind vs nz, 6) shanna mclaughlin, 7) parenthood, 8 ) dish network, 9) rachel bilson and, 10) portia de rossi.

The 49'er whiner

I've already had my midlife crisis (actually, I've had several, starting in my 20s; why wait till the last minute?), and I don't especially want to live through someone else's. But I apparently have no choice. When the president wallows in approaching-50 angst, you sort of have to pay attention:

Rock on

Speaking of lists, here's one I heard on Bob & Tom this morning, the "Top 50 Guitar Albums of All Time" from Gibson.com (where they should know something about guitar albums}. I'd quibble a little with the Top Ten. "Are You Experienced" should be No. 1 insead of "Van Halen." "Led Zeppelin" (29) should be ahead of "Led Zeppelin IV" (3) or "Led Zeppelin II" (6). But, hey, it's all great stuff.

Kindle

Mr. Early Adopter gets burned again:

Kindle is our #1 bestselling item for two years running. It's also the most-wished-for, most-gifted, and has the most 5-star reviews of any product on Amazon. Now it's even better.
