Our town

We are what we cook

Now we know why the county health police are cracking down so hard on outdoor cooking. It's a plot to keep us stupid and controllable:

Humans are "strange" and smart animals, and according to a new study out in this month's issue of Genome Biology, it may be because we're such good cooks.

Code got your goat?

A reminder to all town, city and county legislators througout the state -- it you intend for the ordinance to cover goats, put the darn goats in the darn ordinance:

A Hancock County judge has ruled that a Fortville town ordinance does not prohibit a local couple from keeping goats in their backyard.

Save the grills

I missed the column in Sunday's JG by Mindy Waldron, an administrator with the county health department, but I heard Pat White talking about it on WOWO on my drive home yesterday, so I hunted it up. The department has gotten a reputation for being a bunch of rule-obsessed, meddling busybodies because of its apparent attempt to kill outdoor cooking by restaurants.

It slipped his mind

Well, OK, I write reminders on my calendar of upcoming meetings, and sometimes I leave a sticky note on the door about some errand I need to do that day so I will see it on the way out of the house. But this guy takes the cake for bad memory:

Police say they found hundreds of pictures of child pornography in a southeast Fort Wayne home. The home owner, 72-year old Lewis Jack Philpot is now facing 5 felony charges of possessing child pornography.

Fort Wayne hammered

Sigh. Fort Wayne is famous again. The complete text of the police report of our claw-hammer guy has found its way onto The Smoking Gun Web site. As the site advises:

Time out for night out

Boy, this would have been a good night for some smart burglars to make a real haul:

An estimated 3,000 people converged at Brownsburg Town Hall Tuesday for the community's Night Out Against Crime.

Keep it private, OK?

I first decided to link to this because of the outrageousness of getting arrested for being nude in your own house. This guy was arrested because police "saw him standing naked in the window of his home."

Judgment suspended

There are police-cruiser videotapes of police officer James Arnold shooting and killing Jose B. Lemus-Rodriguez. Those tapes have been seen by Fort Wayne Police, Indiana State Police, Allen County Prosecutor Karen Richards and now Robert H. Black, a consultant hired by the city. And everybody says the evidence, including those tapes, supports Arnold's contention that the shooting was justified. But the tapes aren't being released:

It's coming, it's coming!

Who says there's never anything fun to do in Fort Wayne?

Right now you can buy your tickets to WWE World Wrestling Entertainment BEFORE the public. The free presale password for the WWE World Wrestling Entertainment show in Fort Wayne gives access to tickets for a short time.
