A) Brawl-filled game but Komets lose and the season is over.
This is from CHL Director of Hockey Operations Jim Wiley:
“It was determined after extensive review that Mr. Reaney did not target the head nor was primary contact made to the head. Mr. Reaney was given a major penalty by the on-ice official and no further disciplinary action was deemed necessary that would result in the player missing any game time. Mr. Reaney was fined and put on notice for the dangerous hit.”
He has been fined an undisclosed amount by the league but will receive no additional suspension.
01-black-and-orange-fort-wayne-kome2 so you can listen to the song
and here are the lyrics in the first comment
``There is a rule about blind-side hits, and I think what they are doing is going by how the rule reads. I was there at the game and saw it happen. There was no penalty on it, but there is a rule regarding blindside hits and that's what they are working off of, especially with a player hurt. He did not deliberately hit him in the head, there's no elbow or no forearm. As their coach said, 10 years ago that would have been a clean hit, but now we have to be very concerned about the players' safety regarding concussions.”
The final determination to be made on number of games once medical documentation is sent to the league later today. He is definitely out for Wednesday's game.
No news yet on the Komets' asking the league to review Les Reaney's hit later on O'Connor.
