Tailing the Komets

Norfolk changes

The Admirals have released Rizk and Marino and have returned Hegarty to the Komets. They will not play tonight because they are flying into Fort Wayne tomorrow.

NHL face-off party

Norfolk's lineup tonight

Includes Rizk, Marino, Schaus, Brittain, Kennedy, Lasch and Guentzel. The Admirdals lead Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1-0 early in the second period.

Never-ending saga

Daniel Maggio has been released from his three-game tryout with Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers are either going to fly him out tonight or fly him into Evansville tomorrow so he can play. Luca Caputi is also going to play tomorrow, but now Dan Nycholat has the flu. Komets may play with nine forwards and six defensemen.

Henley gets the call

He's heading to Lake Erie (Cleveland) of the AHL for at least the weekend.

``I'm very excited,'' he said. ``This is the whole reason I stayed in North America this season, another shot at a couple of more games. If I have to come back, this is obviously where I want to come back to.''

Reiter's save

Thanks to the Komets for this.

Talked to Chaulker

He's feeling much better and might get to go home soon. No surgery this time, which will help in  his training to return. If you'd like to send get well cards, asked that they be sent to the Komets office 1010 Memorial Way.

Something else to consider

All these players moves may not be done in another way: don't be shocked if some head to Europe to replace all the NHL players coming home. Thomas Beauregard told me last night that his brother David-Alexandre is heading overseas again. This could affect a lot of teams also over the next few weeks.

Komets win but also lose

The Komets beat Cincinnati 3-2 in overtime on Mike Hoban's slap shot on Sunday, and after the game they announced that Brandon Marino and J.M. Rizk were being called up to Norfolk of the AHL.

Chaulk update

Komets General Manager David Franke said Colin Chaulk is in the hospital with a recurrence of his foot staph infection. He said it's being treated with intravenous anti-biotics and has not required surgery at this time. This pushes back Chaulk's target date of Jan. 18 for returning to the lineup. Chaulk has also been suffering from the flu.

Franke said Luca Caputi may be about a week away from returning from a shoulder injury.
