The Central Hockey League (CHL), in conjunction with Club 9 Sports, announced today that the Quad City Mallards organization has signed a 10-year license agreement making the Mallards a member of the CHL for the next decade.
Club 9 Sports purchased the Mallards last June and played in the CHL under the joint agreement with the CHL and the International Hockey League that was constructed in the summer of 2010 covering the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. The other teams operating in the CHL currently under that agreement are the Dayton Gems, the Fort Wayne Komets and the Evansville IceMen.
and will play tonight. Defenseman Dustin Molle goes on season-ending Injured Reserve.
Looking forward to the Komets wearing white again at home in the playoffs? I like the orange, but I'm ready for a change.
The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today the six member All-CHL Team for the 2011-12 season, selected through balloting of all 14 CHL head coaches. This year’s team is comprised of forwards Shawn Limpright of Rapid City, Brandon n Marino of Quad City and Todd Robinson of Evansville. They are joined by defensemen Frankie DeAngelis of Fort Wayne and Riley Weselowski of Rapid City with goaltender Mark Guggenberger of Texas.
Thanks to a nifty pass from J.M. Rizk behind the Laredo net to set up Kaleigh Schrock to lifted the puck over Laredo goaltender Torrie Jung.
On goals by Mike Vaskivou and Chris Auger, both off set-ups by Colin Chaulk. Komets out-shot the Bucks 10-5 in the first period. Very tentative game by both teams so far.
The Komets are bringing in 6-4, 220-pound defenseman Tyler Miller on Sunday. He was recently cut by Wichita after being acquired from Rapid City. He has 1 goal, 5 points and 6 PIMs in37 games this year and is minus-2. He's 25 and qualifies as a rookie.
Everyone has heard the saying, ``Couldn't do that if you tried.'' Maybe that's the key to the Komets breaking out of this strange overtime/shootout pattern they are in. They have played seven consecutive home games that have gone to overtime or a shootout, nine of their last 13 games overall. This is maybe the strangest thing I've seen in two decades-plus of covering the team.
Maybe they should start tonight's game by TRYING to end in a tie so they go to an overtime or a shootout.
