Benefit auction upcoming

You may not recognize the name, but I'm sure you'd recognize a picture of Farrell Hoover, a long-time usher at the coliseum. He's in line for a kidney tranplant, and some friends are hosting  small benefit for him on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. at North Christian Church, 5201 S. Camden Dr. in Fort Wayne. They are selling Nelson's Chicken for $6 and holding a silent auction.

Some notes

* Kevin Reiter has signed to be a goalie coach in Italy.

* Justin Hodgman left Sunday to play in Finland.

* Luciano Aquinio is on a 30-day tryout contract in Germany and is almost assured of signing a long-term deal because he's playing so well.

* Tom Lawson is trying to become a firefighter.

* Fredric Korduner and Eric Yngwe have both signed their training camp agreements. The Komets believe they can invite Stanislav Dzakhov to camp under CHL rules, but he's leaning toward playing one more year of juniors in the USHL.

Talked to Bobby Phillips

He's still talking to the Komets, but mostly he's rehabbing his shoulder and would not be ready to play until November at the earliest. He's starting Nursing School on Monday.

Leo is fired up

``I let them know that I really didn't want to go anywhere else. After the season we had last year I wanted to ome back and help get this team back to where it should be.

``I'm taking the offeseason a lot more serious than I have in a few years. That's one thing I knew I had to improve on, being in better shape and being stronger. Last year obviously I didn't live up to my own expextations, let alone the organizations. Maybe I needed to have an off year like that to get ready to come back and prove a lot of people wrong. I'm pretty pumped up about that.
