Komets coach Al Sims after Friday's 5-3 loss.
``Not good enough obviously. You can't give up three goals in the third period and expect to win a hockey game.
``They pressured us everywhere and our defense couldn't handle the pressure, and neither could our forwards. That was the difference.''
On the PK: ``It was terrible. We gave up three power-play goals. It was the worst it's been all year.''
On Reiter: ``Hot and cold, I guess. He made some great saves and probably wishes he had a couple of them back.''
It's 2-2 after two periods. Controversial call on Kaleigh Schrock for a 5:00 charging penalty on a hit against Travis Granbois. No doubt Granbois was face-first into the glass, that Schrock left his feet or that he came a long way to do it in the attacking zone. It was not a game miscondct because Granbois was not cut or otherwise injured. Rule 42.3. It only includes a game misconduct if the player is injured.
Schrock came back to score a goal and another by Tab Lardner. Kevin Reiter has real
I'm trying to find some servicemen or women I can talk to about the upcoming Komets Kare Package. If you have any relatives or friends from Fort Wayne serving our country, I'd like to talk to them, hopefully by email. I'll be asking them about where they are serving (if they are allowed to talk about it), and what kind of stuff they'd like for people to donate. They
BTW, Inside the Zone starts Monday with Glenn and I.
It's about Eddie Long and a trophy he receiving in the mail recently. You can read it here.
* Tab Lardner will be filling Derek Patrosso's spot on the wing with the line of Brandon Naurato and Neil Musselwhite. Lardner said he's played only a little with Naurato before.
* Patrosso and Danko Mironovic won't start riding the bike until this weekend at the earliest because of concussions. If they have headaches after they ride for the first time, they'll sit out another week at least.
* Konstantin Shafranov started working with the forwards on ice on Monday, but he actually gave some of the players a few tips before last weekend's games.
Thanks to long-time Komets fan Neal Colvin, we now know that Lloyd Maxfield's best of scoring two goals in nine seconds is not the all-time Fort Wayne record. Jim Boyd scored two in five seconds Jan. 5, 1972 in Flint. Somehow both goals were unassisted as he scored at 7:58 and 8:03 of the second period. There's no explanation of the goals in the story the next day. That mean

The Central Hockey League announced today that Fort Wayne defenseman Frankie DeAngelis has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending November 28, 2010. The second-year pro joins Wichita's Posted in: Komets
Obviously, most of us (except for the old, old-timers like Schebig and Burgee) are not going to remember when Lloyd Maxfield scored two goals 9 seconds apart Nov. 5, 1960, against Milwaukee. That's the answer to the fastest two goals by a Komets player after Kaleigh Schrock scored two 10 seconds apart Saturday night. But, I'm betting a few of us remember seeing Paul Willett score two SHORT-HANDED goals in 10 seconds in 1997, right? I remember seeing Scott Gruhl score two short-handed goals in 16 seconds once, too. Anybody else remember those nights?
Kaleigh Schrock scored two goals in 10 seconds, which is one second off the Komets' record of nine seconds held by Lloyd Maxfield. Komets had 22 shots in the period. Quad City looks like it is ready to go home after playing seven games in nine days. The Mallards are definitely road weary. Komets continue to look very good with the new systems.
