The law and the jungle

Armd and presumptuous

I know some of you have followed the media's bias, ignorance and downright incompetence when it comes to gun issues. Hot Air here covers MSNBC's spectacularly stupid questioning of Sheriff Chuck Wright, the lawman who made news recently by urging law-abiding citizens in general and women in particular to arm themselves. Could anyone possibly be as clueless about self-defense as this question seems to indicate?

It may be garbage, but it ain't trash

A judge makes a common-sense ruling in a case that should never have been brought:

A judge found a Martinsville man not guilty of littering after he left a copy of a Ku Klux Klan newspaper at a local business.

Every move you make

And so it begins:

New street lights that include “Homeland Security” applications including speaker systems, motion sensors and video surveillance are now being rolled out with the aid of government funding.

Bad neighbors

I suppose this would annoy me, too. Early morning noise is not something I want to experience before I even have my first cup of coffee. (It's a "major turnoff," as the playmates say in their centerfold interviews.)

The Greenwood High School marching band has long celebrated wins with an early-morning performance on the band director's lawn.

Gun happy

Encouraging news, 2nd Amendment fans:

A record-low 26% of Americans favor a legal ban on the possession of handguns in the United States other than by police and other authorized people. When Gallup first asked Americans this question in 1959, 60% favored banning handguns. But since 1975, the majority of Americans have opposed such a measure, with opposition around 70% in recent years.

Welcome to dystopia

Orwellian? Oh, at least:

A proposed revision to Freedom of Information Act rules would allow federal agencies to lie to citizens and reporters seeking certain records, telling them the records don't exist.

Rebels

It's been 235 years, and the British still aren't over the Declaration of Independence. A bunch of American and British lawyers had a debate in Philadelphia recently over whether the declaration was "legal." The British viewpoint:

The Declaration of Independence was not only illegal, but actually treasonable. There is no legal principle then or now to allow a group of citizens to establish their own laws because they want to. What if Texas decided today it wanted to secede from the Union?

Reality check

Some in the Occupy Space movement seem to be turning on each other:

It's a den of thieves!

Occupy Wall Street protesters said yesterday that packs of brazen crooks within their ranks have been robbing their fellow demonstrators blind, making off with pricey cameras, phones and laptops -- and even a hefty bundle of donated cash and food.

Stop me at the door!

Does this seem like a pretty big number to anybody else?

Liars club

The way the Supreme Court has been going lately, this will probably be another 4-4 vote with Anthony Kennedy casting the tie-breaker. But it really deserves to be 9-0 in favor of lying liar Xaviar Alvarez:

The Supreme Court says it will decide whether a federal law making it a crime to lie about being awarded a military medal or decoration violated free-speech rights.
