Hunting for trouble

Solution in search of a problem:

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana lawmakers are again considering a constitutional amendment that would guarantee Hoosiers’ right to hunt.

The proposed amendment earned statehouse approval two years ago. If it passes the legislature again this year, it would go to the ballot for Indiana voters to decide in 2014.

How dare she keep a gun in the same house with her kids! Whatever was this woman thinking of?

Deadly milestone

The gun-control crowd is being predicably opportunistic in seizing on the news that Indiana is now one of 10 states in which gun deaths outpace motor vehicle deaths -- 735 vs. 715, in 2009, the most recent year for which state-by-state information is available. Not that I blame them -- milestones are great pegs on which to hang your messages.

Pistol-packin' Mamas

According to a new Gallup poll, 23 percent of American women say they own a gun, up from 13 percent in 2005, a number that includes 50,000 Hoosier women who have received gun permits over the past three years. And a lot of them are apparently taking lessons: "We have a joke in the industry that all men are born with the John Wayne chromosome," said Bob Meyer, a gun safety instructor. "They think they can shoot from birth, and a woman is more willing to listen."

This is an interesting point:

Incrementally wrong

Be suspicious of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on gun rights. Why? Paul Helmke isn't upset with them:
