Canada-USA

Let's put the new posts here.

There is nobody better at anything than Mike Emrick. He makes me feel like a kindergartner when it comes to hockey lore.

Prayer request

Our pal Justin from the Journal Gazette is going to undergo some pretty extensive surgery on Monday and will be on the bench for a few weeks. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers over the coming weeks. If you are not the religious type, maybe email  him with some suggestions of movies he should watch while recuperating.

Komets beat Dayton 3-2

Komets coach Al Sims was much happier with his team's pefromance Saturday night after the Komets beat Dayton 3-2 on the road.

``We played really well defensively,'' Sims said. ``Timmy (Haun) was good on the few chances we did give up, and all the veterans really came to play tonight. We played really well. I don't think they got in our end once over the last minute and a half.''

Is this good or bad?

The USA-Canada game on Sunday night is going to be on MSNBC, not NBC.

What Al had to say

``You miss three breakaways in the first period, it's going to definitely hurt you and come back to haunt you. That's what we were doing earlier in the year. Lately we've been putting those things in. It was some of our best players. Russo out-played our goalies, there's no doubt about it, and he deserved the win.''
He definitely changed goalies, there was no injury to Nick Boucher.

Tonight wasn't any better

Give Port Huron credit. The IceHawks came in and played a perfect road game tonight. They let the Komets beat themselves by basically out-smarting them. Once again, Komets were not ready to play early and it cost them badly. Then they kept making very, very bad mistakes by taking penalties, pinching in when they shouldn't have. They didn't get a power-play chance until late in the second period because basically they didn't work hard enough to earn one. It's as simple as that.

Just for fun

How many oxymorons can you come up with? According to Dictionary.com, an oxymoron is ``A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in `a deafening silence,' and `a mournful optimist.' ''

Some examples: Military Intelligence, Jumbo Shrimp, Happily Married, Hospital Food, Microsoft Works, Giant Midgets, Government Help, Airline Service.

Are there any that relate to hockey?

Book release/signing party

Or should that be book signing/release party?

Anyway, my next book, ``The Lake Effect'' will be available for purchase online Saturday, and we're having a signing party at Hall's Triangle Park from 3-5 p.m., Sunday. If you can't make it, the book can be ordered at booksbybauer.com starting Saturday. (We're having a big story announcing the book in Saturday's News-Sentinel.) It will cost $15, and I'll be happy to sign almost any time.
