Some updates

Talked with David Franke and Al Sims today. Here's some of the highlights.

* The Komets haven't talked to Frankie DeAngelis yet this week, but it would not shock them if DeAngelis is out for at least the rest of the regular season with a concussion. ``He can't even go for a walk without getting a headache,'' Sims said. "I'd be very surprised if he's playing this week.''

* Dan Lapointe has a deep bruise on his leg, and Artem Podshendyalov had a cap fall off his tooth and that got infected so both are day-to-day.

DeAngelis for team MVP

Anybody else buying this right now?

He's been the most consistent performer since the start of the season. The team was 15-4 and scoring before he got hurt. The power play was climbing all the way to No. 3 in the CHL.

Since he's gotten hurt, the Komets have gone 2-3-2 and have scored 17 goals, including three power-play goals in 35 chances.

He's what makes this team tick this season.

Back in the scoring slump

Komets lost 3-1 at Rapid City on Saturday night despite out-shooting the Rush 37-26, including 16-5 in the third period. Fort Wayne is 11-14-3 on the road this season, losing five in a row and getting out-scored 25-5 in those games.

Carroll wins Class 4A state title

The Chargers beat Columbus 4-2, overcoming a 2-0 second-period deficit. Marc Peters, Blake Siebenaler, Lucas Salerno and Kelly Hay scored for Carroll. Hay, Ryan Lewis, Trent Peters and Philip Callaghan had assists, and Samantha Fuge was the winning goaltender. This is the third time Carroll has won a state title.

State tournament update

Looks like Leo lost 1-0 to Penn in the Class 2A game, giving up a power-play goal with 56 seconds left. Penn had seven power plays to Leo's for. The goal was off a rebound. Penn had 26 shots on goal and Leo had 28.

DeAngelis named defensive finalist

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced on Friday the five finalists for the CHL Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Goaltender (Scott Brower Award), Most Outstanding Defenseman and Rookie of the Year awards. After a nomination period by CHL teams, the league front office determined the finalists for each award. Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communications Departments and select media members in CHL markets to determine the winners.

Here's the roster plan

On Friday, the Komets are going to activate Jon Mirasty and put Sean O'Connor on the 10-day IR with a bad wrist which he suffered Saturday night in Evansville. O'Connor and Frankie DeAngelis will not be making this trip. Danko Mironovic is ready to play when needed.

The team is leaving at 6:30 a.m. Thursday to bus to Indy for a direct flight to Denver. They'll play Friday at Colorado and then fly out Saturday morning for Rapid City and then fly back to Denver to Indy to catch the bus home on Sunday.
