Komets win 3-1

The Fort Wayne Komets are 11-2 when they score three or more goals in a game, and Saturday night they won their seventh such game in a row with a 3-1 win at Quad City to complete a two-game sweep of the Mallards.

OT `garbage goal' rescues Ks

Interesting game

Now, that was a typical David Hukalo garbage goal that the Komets have been desperate for. Did anybody notice after the Quad City cross check that wasn't called, Hukalo got back to his skates and gave Jacques Perreault a pretty good slash to create space before he scored the goal?

``I didn't slash the guy,'' Hukalo said with a grin.

Well, it wasn't called.

``Exactly. You have to do whatever you have to do to get a goal, especially when you've been struggling. It was nice to finally get one.''

You should consider getting this book

It's the TinCaps book Chad Ryan an Aaron Suozzi worked on to commemorate the team's first season in the new ballpark. It is spectacular.

OK, let's try this

You can get the Komets one thing and one thing only for Christmas, be it a specific player, a characteristic, a new sweater. What would it be? Yes, $1 beer night would be one thing and it would probably last only one time.

I'll say Matt Syroczynski back for the rest of the season.

Reality check

Most folks on here want the Komets to make drastic changes, but to do that, you'd have to get rid of some people, and no one seems to be able to agree on whom to get rid of. Sure, some would like to trade a few of the vets, which is easy to say, but they would not report so they have no trade value. Getting rid of the youngsters doesn't do any good because you can't afford to replace them with significantly better players as the veterans make most of the money.

Haun declines to comment

He told me this morning he just wants to accept responsibility for his actions, serve his time and move on.

Al Sims' reaction

``I think any time you get a match penalty for swinging your stick, it's going to be severe. Obviously it was more than Mac's last year and Labenski's this year but I think stick swinging, they take it more severely than an elbow or a knee-to-knee hit or anything like that. Stick swinging is something they don't want in the game so I wasn't surprised by the length.''

League comes down on Haun

International Hockey League Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones said Tim Haun received a seven-game suspenion because he received a match penalty and there was clear intent to injure Port Huron's Derek Patrosso.

``The fact that player does not get hurt doesn't diminish the act of what transpired,'' Jones said. ``In this situation there was clear intent with the stick knowing full well he had the potential to hurt somebody.''

Taking responsibility

I have a confession to make. All of this is my fault. I said earlier in the year Rick Varone had the chance to score 35 goals and Matt Syroczynski might score 40. Then, prior to two weeks ago, I said the Komets should go for the sweep against Dayton, Quad City and Flint.

So, yes, this is indeed all might fault, and I'll have to man up and take respoinsibility for it.

So I've got some new predictions. Bobby Phillips and Kevin Bertram will become the new terrific twosome from the point on the power play. Justin Chwedoruk will be the new enforcer, backed up by Tomas Klempa.
