Komets rally to tie road record

The Fort Wayne Komets are inching closer to something they've never done in 57 years, win three-straight regular-season championships. The Komets rallied from a two-goal deficit with four goals in the third period Friday night to win at Bloomington 6-4. That win gives the Komets 98 points on the season and knocks their magic number for clinching the Huber Trophy to five points. The Komets lead Port Huron by five points with four games remaining for Fort Wayne and five for the IceHawks, who make up the game in hand on Sunday against Muskegon.

This is from the Muskegon Lumberjacks

The name on the back of the jersey can sometimes mean as much to a community as the name on the front. When mentioning Muskegon professional hockey, it is a name that cannot be ignored. Kharin is written throughout the Muskegon record books. Sergei Kharin wore #16 for 5 seasons with the Muskegon Fury of the Colonial Hockey League (CoHL) and later when it became the United Hockey League (UHL). Now his son Anton dons the #16 sweater for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League (IHL).

As opposed to a dead one or possibly only mildly interesting or incredibly dull.

With it being spring break, I'm betting there's going to be a bunch of kids at the game tonight. Welcome back to Riley Albahrani to the press box after she was out sick last week.

Not a big deal you say? For some folks it is. Komets fans Kedrick, 9, and Drake Sosenheimer,10, are in Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital recuperating from brain surgery, and their little brother Hunter, 8, tagged along.

Hodgman is returning!

Turner Cup Most Valuable Player Justin Hodgman is on his way to Fort Wayne and will be in the lineup Wednesday night against Muskegon. Komets General Manager David Franke said nothing has been signed yet, but Hodgman said, ``I'm on my way, and I can't wait to sign the papers."

Hodgman said he had been talking contract with Rockford of the AHL, but that fell through, so he decided to return to Fort Wayne. He must play the last six regular-season games to be eligible for the playoffs.

Why is he coming back?

Dayton is folding

You can read it here. This is something the IHL should leave all kinds of alone for at least a year. This city needs a total fresh start in hockey, and going in there next year would be a huge mistake.

Great notes from Chuck

Some very interesting notes this week from Komets PR man Chuck Bailey.

* The Komets were 13-1-1 in March after going 13-0-1 in March last year... Nick Boucher has reached his career high in wins, Guy Dupuis and David Hukalo in goals. P.C. Drouin needs one goal to break his career high.

Komets General Manager David Franke said the center has been cleared to play Wednesday after getting his bell run Sunday in Flint. No other players are dealing with any major injuries that would keep them out of the lineup, Franke said.
