Current events

You still like us!

Well, by God, a smattering of good news for a change:

Circulation revenue for daily newspapers grew in 2012 for the first time in a decade as more people paid to subscribe to digital editions, according to data compiled by the Newspaper Assn. of America.

Mainstream libertarianism?

I'd like to believe this isn't just wishful thinking, but given the electorate's growing appetite for government serices, that's hard to do:

Led by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), libertarians hope to become a dominant wing of the GOP by tapping into a potent mix of war weariness, economic anxiety and frustration with federal overreach in the fifth year of Barack Obama’s presidency.

RIP, Maggie

Guess this is my day for clips. Margaret Thatcher has died, and dammit anyway. What can I say about somebody I thought enough of to name one of my cats after? There are tons of Thatcher clips I could post, but I like this one, in which she gives the socialists in Parliament a tongue-lashing over the so-called "income gap" that the liberals in this country still can't get over.

Kids 'R' ours

Those people at MSNBC aren't just loony lefty airheads anymore. Now they're getting downright scary. Your kids belong to all of us, so get over it, "K?

Power trip

Many people have been justifiably derisive of President Obama's recent statements that we need not fear government because "government is us," and we don't need to worry about him, either, because he is "constrained" by the system put in place by the Founders.

Here's what's wrong with those statements:

Fast and cheap

Are these people insane?

Hundreds of fast food workers in New York City will walk off the job Thursday to protest low wages.

The move is part of a campaign to unionize franchises in New York and raise wages to $15 an hour.

Free at last

Lord. Tax Freedom Day -- when we all will have handed over to the government enough money to have paid our average total tax bill for the year -- isn't until April 18 this year:

Ta-ta

Oh, no! I haven't even started packing yet:

Men are living on borrowed time, according to a leading female scientist.

Professor Jenny Graves even claims the male of the species is heading for extinction.

Must-see TV

Honestly, I haven't noticed any particular restraint being exercised -- have you?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering making changes to its rules that bar TV and radio stations from airing indecent material.

Those who can't . . .

For the "can't make this stuff up" file:

President Barack Obama, who has increased the national debt by $53,377 per household, has proclaimed April “National Financial Capability Month,” during which his administration will do things such as teach young people “how to budget responsibly.”
