Tailing the Komets

This is fun

The late, great Skate sent me this in 2007.

Not many people know that Mick Jagger of Rolling Stones fame attended a Komet Hockey game during the 1960's as a guest of his second cousin, IHL linesman Hartley McLeod. I happened to be sitting right behind the rock legend and can attest to the truthfulness of this story.

Haun is GOW

Tim Haun has been named the IHL's Goaltender of the Week after going 2-1 with a 1.33 goals against average and .933 save percentage on the week.

Craig MacDonald of Bloomington was named the Player of the Week, and Port Huron's Mikael Bedard was named the Rookie of the Week.

A few notes

* The league is reviewing the hit by Datyon's Greg Labenski against Konstantin Shafranov and a decision is expected on Tuesday. Will Labenski get suspended? I think so and I wonder if it will be similar to the five games that Brad MacMillan got last year for the Glenn Detulleo hit. Same situation.

On the way home

Sorry, didn't have internet access in Muskegon. I've got some pictures of the Stayzer-Lawmaster fight I'll post when I get home. It was a draw, and both gave a good account of themselves. Pretty good game, too. Komets held Lumberjacks to 16 shots on goal in Muskegon and lost. They must have had 10 shots that missed a foot wide or a foot high and then David Hukalo's last-second chance hit the crossbar.

Too many set-up guys and not enough finishers right now. Give Whitehead credit for playing despite a bad knee. The kid showed some guts. You couldn't even tell Huk had missed any time at all.

Congrats to Jeff Bonar

The Komets clipped the visiting Quad City Mallards 2-1 Friday night.  Not only did the score give the Komets their sixth win of the season but it also made Komet fan Jeff Bonar $10,000 richer.

Komets sign Tyler Sims

The Komets have signed goaltender Tyler Sims as an emergency back-up because of the thumb injury to Tyler Sims. That means Sims cannot play unless Tim Haun is injured in a game.  Sims is expected to be the Komets' back-up for all three games this weekend. He counts as a rookie on th
