Flossie update

Jackie wrote: "Mom Update: Just wanted to let you know that mom appreciates all of your thoughts, comments, prayers, etc. I have been reading your messages to her. She is in great spirits and has set her goals! She is sure to tell everyone that her hearing aids are at home on the end table, and I haven't brought them to her. She is still battling not being able to see people and remembering who people are, but she is doing well.

She started some therapy today. She has walked around her room twice! The therapist was amazed.

Prayers needed

For longtime Komets office manager Flossie Zimmerman, 85, who fell and broke her hip last night. She had a short surgery today to insert three screws and is in good spirits, but she's bound and determined to make it back in time for opening night. The only way she can do that is with some extra help so please ask God to provide it.

Komets re-sign with WOWO

The deal is for two years and all 76 games will be simulcast on 92.3 FM. Every game, including the trips to Orlando and Colorado will be aired.

Ks add 10 to roster

The Komets announced Wednesday that 10 more players have been added to the training camp roster.  All are invitees to the Komet camp except defenseman Scott Kishel, who has agreed to terms with the Komets for 2012-13.

Kishel, 23, is expected to make his pro debut with the Komets after completing four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth last year.  In 82 games Kishel posted 26 assists and totaled 29 points during his college career with Minnesota-Duluth and was a member of the 2011 National Champion Bulldogs.&nbsp

Wings Stadium renovations

Wings Stadium, which is also home to "The Annex" and "The Cube", announces the largest renovation in the facility’s 39-year history.

The massive project will be completed by the Kalamazoo Wings 2012-13 home opener on Friday, October 19th.

Boucher surgery results

Nick Boucher had surgery on his left hip today, and the doctor again found more problems than hoped for. The doctor performed microfracture surgery again and Boucher's recovery time before he can skate will be at least six-to-eight weeks.

The good news? There's no doubt that anything got missed in either hip and he should be 100 percent for sure when he's healed.

On this date...

Sept. 13, 1952, the Fort Wayne hockey club announced it would be called the Komets.

“Hockey Club to be Called Komets; Train in Canada” the headline said.

Can you just imagine how much Alan would be freaking out about not knowing the team name this late in the summer? OMG! His head would explode. And, no, they did not send any reporters to Woodstock, Ontario to watch training camp, either.

Will anyone be going to Dallas?

Someone has emailed me wondering if any Fort Wayne fans might be going to Dallas for Bob Chase's presentation? Tickets are $175 each and these folks are wondering if anyone would like to get together for a table of 10.

If you are interested, email me at bsebring@news-sentinel.com and I'll get you guys connected.

Bingham steps down in Elmira

From a Jackals' press release

The Elmira Jackals announced today that Pat Bingham has resigned as head coach of the team. A search is underway for the team's tenth head coach.

"Pat made this decision solely on what was best for his family. An opportunity outside of professional hockey presented itself and he took it. While unfortunate that Pat won't be coaching the Jackals this season, we wish him, his wife, and his son the best," said Jackals general manager Matt Hufnagel.
