``As of right now, it should be for the rest of the year. I left Norfolk on very good terms, and we'll see what happens next year. I talked to all three coaches at length, and everything is fine. They liked what I did, but a lot of it is out of their control with Tampa Bay.''
``I initiated this. It was just something where I've been living in a hotel since Oct. 28 with a roommate, and I said if you're not willing to sign me for the year... I was at a point where I'm not a young and upcoming prospect, and this is something I had to do for myself.''

Tim Haun was named the IHL's Goaltender of the Week and Bobby Phillips the Rookie of the Week a few minutes ago. Tim was 3-0 on the week, and Bobby had a goal, two assists and was plus-5.
He gets his wish to be back at practice tomorrow in time to see Mitch Woods barf on the ice. Late last week Matt asked the Norfolk Admirals to either sign him for the rest of the season or release him so he could return to the Komets. He had been living in a hotel with a roommate. Matt played
Brendan has an interesting idea you can read about here.
For the six fans who aren't watching football... Ask away.
BTW, Bob made the trip
Colin Chaulk is playing so well right now, everyone needs heating pads to shake his hot hand.
The veteran Komets center scored two goals to extend his point scoring streak to seven games as Fort Wayne beat Muskegon 4-2 before 8,222 Memorial Coliseum fans. Chaulk has torched the Lumberjacks for four goals and eight points in four games this season. Though everyone kids him about his preference to pass and his reluctance to shoot, Chaulk has scored eight goals in his last nine games after scoring only one in the Komets' first 19 games.
Long-time Komets fan Mike Nichols passed away today after a long, long battle with cancer. I don't know if I ever met anybody who fought harder.
Mike was the fan who inspired Guy Dupuis two years ago when the Komets trailed Port Huron 3-1 in that series. Guy invited Mike into the locker room after the game to drink from the Turner Cup.
He was a special man.
These are from Otto and the game of the week gang. Thanks, Otto!

When a goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask and his team has possession of the puck, the play shall be stopped immediately to allow the goalkeeper the opportunity to regain his helmet and/or face mask. When the opposing team has possession of the puck, play shall only be stopped if there is no immediate and impending scoring opportunity. This stoppage of play must be made by the Referee. When play is stopped because the goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask, the ensuing face-off shall take place at one of the defending team's end zone face-off spots.
You can read the story here and see the WANE highlights from the first period here.
David Hukalo has a concussion along with his stitches and will miss the rest of the weekend... so will goaltender Nick Boucher. Parris Duffus, who was at tonight's game with his son, will be the emergency back-up the rest of the weekend... Bobby Phillips scored his first pro goal and his first goal in more than two years to tie the score in the third period... The MacMillan-Sawyer fight was because of Sawyer's hit on Rick Varone, MacMillan said... I thought Sean O'Connor played a very good game essentially on one leg after getting hit by the Fort Wayne bench early in the second period...
Komets trail 1-0 after Konstantin Shafranov and Sean O'Connor both hit the post.
Early in the period, Nick Boucher got hit up high and a buckle on his mask came lose. Nick flipped his mask off, expecting an automatic whistle, which Referee Ryan Carroll did not give him. It's in the rulebook that as soon as the goaltender loses his mask, it's an automatic stoppage in play. Then Boucher knocked his own goal off the moorings. It probably should have been a delay of game but they talked about it for three or four minutes and called nothing.
