Tailing the Komets

Brad MacMillan is retiring today

It's not because of his concussion but because he has a chance for a great job in Alaska with an oil refinery in Fairbanks.

``I made it official today,'' MacMillan said. ``I don't think I'm going to get this opportunity again. It's a chance for me to even maybe go back to school at some point.''

MacMillan recently played one game with Idaho in the ECHL, receiving nine penalty minutes. He's been trying to get this job for a while now. Fairbacks is where he went to college and where he met his wife Delaney.

Boucher on Magers

``Since his time in Port Huron, he's taken to yapping in warm-ups, shooting pucks at me in warm-ups, so for whatever reason he seems to concentrate more on that than stopping pucks. If that's the way he's going to go... To me, he's a Southern Pro Hockey League goalie. He's played in nine games this year so he's pretty fortunate to have a job at this level in my opinion.''

What Al Sims said

``The penalty shot was for Bobby Phillips falling on the puck in the crease. You cannot cover the puck in the crease with your hand, body, anything. It was the right call, and Bouch made a surprising pokecheck which he never does. I'm sure Robinson was as surprised as anybody with not even getting a shot off.''

Fight photos

It's already 3-0 Komets

Three great passing plays by the Komets who are using their speed all over the ice. Looks like they are just carrying over their play from the third period last night.

Two pretty good fights between Cescon and Richards and then

Besides bring a Steelers' fan, Chad Ryan has some sick talent. Here are six photos of Jesse Bennefield's dive to draw the penalty shot in the second period. The photos show Bennefield reach back, grab Cescon then hook his arm and fall down while clutching Cescon.

Komets hope to acquire Nasty Mirasty

The Fort Wayne Komets are negotiating to add Jon "Nasty" Mirasty to their lineup. Mirasty, 28, is 5-foot-10, 220 pounds of mean. The seven-year pro has annually averaged more than 300 penalty minutes, though he's scored only 11 goals. Mirasty is under contract to Syracuse of the American Hockey League, but has been playing with Elmira in the ECHL.

So far...

Thank goodness for Icy and the lookalike, or this night would have been sleep-inducing. So far, I've nodded off twice. Komets are having a terrible time getting through and around the Thunder's size advantage. Fort Wayne has been very sloppy in its own zone.

Komets trail 2-0

They've had a very tough time clearing their own zone, and they've had nobody in front at the other end. Don't think Nick had a chance on either goal against.

On this one, Wichita's Chris Greene was able to deflect the second goal in as he battled with Craid Cescon.
