Has some pretty neat stuff for old-time hockey fans. Thanks to Neal Colvin for the tip.
The Mudbugs are saying they scored a goal that no one saw. You can read it here.
I talked to Bob Chase about this today and he said he saw a replay that he believed showed the puck went in. I'm not sure how it's possible if there was no hole in the net. Maybe it is. I don't know. Anybody else ever heard of something like that? I've seen pucks go in and come right back out too quick to see, but not go through a hole in the net.
According to Komets general manager David Franke, the plan is for Wichita to arrive in Fort Wayne in time to practice Thursday.
The Komets are also not expecting to make any roster moves before the weekend. On Sunday, they have to put Michael Ratchuk on their regular roster if he's going to remain here. He's currently on a five-game ``free'' contract because he has been sent down from the AHL and does not count against the active roster.
Komets president Michael Franke said he was very impressed with the way Rapid City hosted the Central Hockey League All-Star Game a few weeks ago. That doesn't mean Fort Wayne is interested in hosting the game yet.
Remember last week when the Komets said their Feb. 21 game at Bloomington would be changed to tomorrow? Now it's been changed, officially this time, to
He had a pretty good week.
The Central Hockey League announced today that Colorado forward Riley Nelson has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending January 30, 2011.
This is a letter I received today from Komets fans David and Waynette Ray who are originally from Fort Wayne and who now live in Athens, Texas about halfway between Shreveport and Fort Worth. They went to Saturday night's game in Shreveport. David has followed the Komets since 1973
For the first time ever, the blog passed 100,000 hits for a month, so yes, it does make a difference when the Nellies don't dominate everything. About 25,000 hits over a month. To give you some perspective, we've increased from 450,000 total hits two years ago to 750,000 last year. Can we go for 1 million?
I'm trying to get some special things up today. The first will be up in about five minutes.
Thanks again!
The Komets have 27 games remaining, including 17 at home. They play consecutive road games only twice the rest of the way.
Derek Patrosso might be the CHL Player of the Week on Monday. He had six points over the three games and was plus-6. He has 13 points and is a remarkable plus-10 over his last 10 games and he and Tab Lardner each scored 14 points in 13 games to lead the team during January.
In January, the Komets were 8-3-2. Kevin Reiter was 4-2-0 with a 2.10 gaa and .924 save percentage; Nick Boucher was 4-1-2 with a 2.66 gaa and .907 save percentage. Lardner and Patrosso had 14 points, Chaulk 13, P.C. Drouin 12 and Guy Dupuis 10.
Since Colin Chaulk and Dustin Molle joined the lineup, the Komets are 7-3-2.
``They were three unbeliebable and hard-fought games. It was a man's game out there in those three games and our teamm really showed what they are made of and served notice on the league that the Komets are back. These are two of the elite teams in the other division, and to beat them in their own buildings like this is really something.
``I think we've been in gear (11-3-4 over the last 18 games), and we just need to keep going the way we are going.''
On beating Fort Worth: ``It's awesome. It was a team that fired me. Any time you can come back and return the favor, it's a great thing.''
What a weekend for the Komets who won all three games to pull two games within .500. Mathieu Curadeau scored in overtime to give the Komets the win. Nick Boucher made 22 saves as the Komets out-shot the Brahmas 36-22. Think this one wasn't a little special for Al Sims who used to coach the Brahmas?
OK, whom do you think was the Komets' all-time greatest rival and why?
Then, who is their best rivalry with now and why?
What make
Beat Bossier-Shreveport 2-1 to extend their road winning streak to six games and sweep the doubleheader from the Mudbugs. Dustin Molle and Tab Lardner scored for the Komets, and Derek Patrosso had two assists. Dan Lapointe and Colin Chaulk both did an excellent job in the final five minutes winning some key faceoffs. Kevin Reiter made 29 saves to win for the second straight night.
Now the Komets get on the bus for the 3 1/2-hour trip to
