Bad signs

Beware of the Sign Police:

INDIANAPOLIS -- From banners to flags and full building wraps, a citizens group is raising concerns about the visual impact the 2012 Super Bowl may leave behind on the city.

Indianapolis leaders are considering an ordinance that would allow for an array of temporary signs, including inflatables, cold air balloons and projected image signs, 6News' Kara Kenney reported.

Hey, it's Icon Thursday!

Juxtaposition of the day -- make your own decision about what it means.

First, some people are working on $135,000 to, among other things, erect a 13-foot statue of Larry Bird at Indiana State University.:

Knight and gray

The General has a point:

Bob Knight criticized the NCAA and called the rule Ohio State football players broke when they sold and traded their personal memorabilia "idiotic."

The former Indiana and Texas Tech basketball coach, and an Ohio State alum, spoke to reporters Monday night before the Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards ceremony, where he was scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

Cool it, fans

Hey, we were watching the race, man! We don't care about no stupid news:

A South Bend television station is defending its decision to cut away from the finish of the Indianapolis 500 for a severe weather report.

WBND news director Aaron Ramey tells the South Bend Tribune that tornado warnings had been issued for the area on Sunday, and "public safety is a priority" for the ABC affiliate.

Suit up, players

If Maslow were around to work on his hierarchy of needs today, he might need to make an addition to the five layers of his pyramid. The existing levels would remain the same (from bottom to top): psysiological needs, such as food and water and sex, are met first; then safety needs, followed by love/belonging needs; after those are met, we can work on our esteem needs; finally we can work on our self-actualization needs, such as morality and creativity.

The clock is ticking

We love the game, but don't mess with us, OK?

Yet Commissioner Roger Goodell conceded the owners' lockout of players that is in its third month -- and with no end in sight -- is doing damage to the NFL. Fans, he said, are beyond restless.

Tough year ahead

As an NFL fan, guess that makes me a ticking time bomb just ready to explode into a crime spree:

Ravens star Ray Lewis issues a stern warning. He says if there is no football, crime will increase across the country.

[. . .]

Lewis painted a grim picture across America of people without jobs and nothing to do on Sundays.

Busy, busy, busy

The Justice Department doesn't have enough to do without messing around with college football?

The U.S. Justice Department wants to know why the NCAA doesn't have a college football playoff system and says there are "serious questions" about whether the current format to determine a national champion complies with antitrust laws.

Dump Trump

A group that wants Donald Trump removed as this year's Indianapolis 500 pace car driver has a Facebook page "liked" by thousands of people:

The page says the pace car driver honor is typically bestowed on people involved in motor sports or people considered national heroes. The page contends Trump is neither.

I dunno. That'll be a few minutes at least when he won't be able to spout nonsense.

Picky, picky

So now President Obama shows us what happens when we choose someone with theoretical knowledge but no real experience. He must rely on formulas that lead to the easy and most obvious answers, failing to take into account the probability of unintended consequences and unexpected deviations from the pattern.
