Tailing the Komets

Here's the deal

If Bloomington wins on Sunday, the PrairieThunder will face the Komets in the first round. If Bloomington loses, then the PrairieThunder will finish fourth and the Komets would face Missouri in the first round. Missouri has the first tiebreaker which is overall wins not counting shootout wins. Both teams have 80 points, but Bloomington has three shootout wins, and Missouri has only one.

So who's scoreboard watching?

Bloomington is losing to Evansville 1-0, Missouri is losing 2-1 to Laredo and Rapid City is tied 1-1 with Arizona. All of those games could affect whom the Komets face in the first round. So could Sunday's game between Bloomington and Evansville.

Different scenarios

I'm just kind of throwing this out there to see if I can make sense of it all.

If Rapid City continues to lose tonight, Colorado clinches the conference title because the Eagles own the tiebreaker with Bloomington. That would mean Bloomington, Rapid City and Missouri are all tied for second place, with Bloomington having two games remaining and Rapid City and Missouri one each. Wichita is solidly in fifth and can't move up or down since Quad City lost to Dayton. The Komets trail Quad City by one point and lead Dayton by one point.

I'm also wondering

How fired up are you for this weekend's games? I know a lot of you have been pointing toward these two for a long time, but has the Komets' season taken some of the edge off that? How much do you think their rece

Who do you want?

In the first round, whom do you want the Komets to play? It could be Colorado, Rapid City, Bloomington or Missouri. Which would you like to see them go up against and why? I would guess Bloomington may get the advantage here just because it's possible some of you could make it to the first two games.

Roster debate

The Komets have some very difficult decisions to make by 1 p.m. Monday when their final roster must be submitted to the league.

Here's the deal: They are limited to 19 players, including goaltenders, and two amateur players who do not count against the 19 or the salary cap. One of those will be Tom Mele. Anyone on injured reserve must be counted on the 19-man roster or they are out. There is no injured reserve list, so even if a guy gets put on before Saturday's game, he would be eligible to play in a Monday playoff game if there was one as long as he is included on the 19-man roster.

Uninspiring first period

Komets were getting out-shot 10-3 before they turned it on late in the period, but there's no score so far. Pretty good fight between Jon Mirasty and Matt McCue. Nick Boucher was very lucky early as the puckcontinues to bounce like a bask
