Dinner and a movie

All the rage

Here's a new malady for you -- cheeseburger rage:

DECEMBER 19--A Pennsylvania man has been charged with assault and disorderly conduct for his alleged rampage last month at McDonald’s, a meltdown reportedly triggered when his drive-thru order contained a hamburger with an unwanted piece of cheese.

Not so grande

I'm a serious caffeine addict from way back, but this is just silly:

Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Starbucks Corp. has started selling a specialty coffee that costs $7 for a 16-ounce “grande” cup, making it the company’s priciest brew, as customers demand more premium products.

Turkeys

Well, what do you know? I agree with PETA for once:

It’s a White House tradition with a century and a half of history behind it, but PETA is asking the White House to skip it this year.

Attention, shoppers!

When the chips are down

Guess they've got that pesky old murder-gang-drug thing solved in Chicago so that Mayor Rahm Emanuel can now concetrate on the really important stuff:

Time for Chicago's vending machines to chip up or chip out.

Sorry, Guy

Small confession: I occasionally check in on Guy Fieri's show on the Food Network, not because I'm a particular fan of the spiky-haired, wear-the-sunglasses-on-the-back-of-the-head cooking personality, but because the places he checks out of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" are the kinds of local eateries it's fun to stumble across. But I have to doubt his food judgment after reading this savage New York Times review -- hell, it's an evisceration -- of his new Times Square Restaurant.

Drop that steak, kid!

It's a vegetarian conspiracy!

For one day each week, the Los Angeles City Council wants residents to go vegetarian.

In a unanimous 12-0 vote, the council approved a resolution Friday endorsing the "meatless Monday" campaign and asking residents to make a personal pledge to ditch meat for one day a week.

Trash cams

The food nannies kick it up a notch:

TAVARES, Fla. - Lake County School Board officials are considering attaching cameras to school cafeteria trash cans to study what students are tossing after officials found that most of the vegetables on the school menu end up in the trash can.

Hogwash

What with obsessing over the replacement refs (hey, a guy has to have priorities) and interviewing the first batch in the horde of candidates for the November election, I fear I may have missed some major news events I should have blogged about this week. But I'm certainly glad I caught this one, and all I can say is, "Whew!"
